Today, I received this reminder email from Nathan Jones of the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles regarding the upcoming Epilepsy Summit in Manhattan Beach, California. I am passing along what he wrote, including a link to a video of a man having a seizure while sky diving.
Early
Bird Registration ($50/person) is available until March 10. You can also apply
for partial scholarships to attend. See
below under "Don't Forget!"
Here
are the contents of his email:
This
weekend I saw a video of a young man have a seizure
while sky diving. As someone with epilepsy, I couldn't be more proud of
this young man who is living his life as he wishes. I also couldn't be more
thankful that he was with somebody that could help him during this near death
experience.
This
is an example of how being your own best advocate -- and teaching others to
advocate for you (when you can't) -- can save your life! That is why we take
this very seriously at the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles.
Opening
up to others about having seizures and epilepsy certainly can present a
challenge. It's just not always easy. This year at the 2015 Epilepsy Summit we
will be dedicating half of the day to empowering adults with epilepsy --
focusing on communication skills, sharing tools needed to self-advocate. We
want to be sure all of us avoid preventable injuries and even fateful
experiences just by speaking up.
