Epilepsy and Public Transportation Access

Epilepsy is often misunderstood in the public, and there is a stigma that is different from other disabilities since it is invisible. That is, until a seizure occurs.  People do not believe that people with epilepsy deserve the privileges that people who are physically disabled do.

This causes problems, especially in public transportation.  This is one young woman’s story about having to fight the prejudices against her using disability-seating.  She has lobbied to have the International Symbol of Medicine signage placed next to that of the International Symbol of Access (the wheelchair).

Hopefully, her advocacy will break down barriers and encourage education regarding this issue, improving everyone’s life for the better.
